HYDERABAD: Continuing its crackdown on hospitals for overcharging Covid-19 patients, the Telangana government on Monday barred six more hospitals from admitting or treating coronavirus cases.
It also slapped 51 show cause notices on 26 hospitals after receiving new complaints from patients and their relatives. The six hospitals-Padmaja Hospital at KPHB Colony, Lifeline Medicure Hospital at Alwal, Max care Hospital at Hanmakonda in Warangal Urban district, TX Hospital at Uppal, Lalitha Hospital in Warangal Urban and Sri Sai Ram Hospital, Sangareddy- have the joined the list of 10 other hospitals that have come under scrutiny over the last few days.
“Today six hospitals have been barred from treating Covid-19 patients. They will however complete the treatment of patients under their care. The permission for treating Covid-19 patients has been revoked with immediate effect,” said Dr G Srinivasa Rao, director public health.
Complaints against majority of these hospitals are regarding excessive and irrelevant charges. Other complaints relate to mismanagement and lack of proper attention.
“The department has acted on 166 complaints and taken action against 105 hospitals,” added the official.
The state health authorities said that the action was initiated after proper inquiries into the complaints.
