The Union Health Ministry gave an explanation on Tuesday about the ongoing vaccination in the country. The ministry said that there has been no change in the dose of Kovishield. It will only have two doses. The second dose will be given 12 weeks after the first covishield dose. The same process will continue for Covaxin. ICMR chief Balaram Bhargava said in the press conference that by mid-July or August, we will be able to vaccinate one crore, people, daily and by December we will be vaccinating the entire population of the country.
No shortage of vaccines
ICMR Director General Balram Bhargava said that there is no shortage of vaccines in the country. By mid-July or August, we will have enough doses to vaccinate 10 million people daily. We are confident of getting the entire population of the country vaccinated by December.
20 lakh test daily: Ministry of Health
Union Health Ministry's Joint Secretary Love Aggarwal said that between 16-22 February, 7.7 lakh tests were being done daily in the country. Now we are doing about 20 lakh tests per day. Till now we have done a total of 34.67 crore tests in the country.
50% reduction in active cases
Aggarwal said that there has been a 50 percent decrease in active cases in the country. At the same time, there has been a decrease of 1.3 lakh inactive cases in the last 24 hours. In 30 states/union territories, cases have been declining continuously for a week, which is a good sign. He said that on May 3, there were 17.13 percent active cases in the country, now it has come down to only 6.73 percent.
Less than five thousand cases in 29 states: Health Ministry
According to the Ministry of Health, there are 29 states and union territories in the country where less than 5000 cases are being reported every day. Between April 28 and May 4, there were 531 districts in the country where more than 100 cases were being reported every day. Such districts are now reduced to 295.
