Evergreen Cemetery vets get Memorial Day honors

Members of Beaumont VFW Post 1806 gathered at Evergreen Cemetery for a small Memorial Day ceremony and placement of flags on veterans’ graves Monday morning. Cemetery caretaker Sandra Wilturner and other members of the Evergreen Cemetery Foundation joined them, along with Rosalind-Hiner, whose great-great grandparents were the final owners of record of the historic cemetery. Milton and Hester McGaffey are among the graves hidden within the overgrown portion of the cemetery.

A larger event is already in the work for a Veteran’s Day celebration at the site.
