Greater Noida: GNIDA plans to set up a solid waste management centre ranging between 1,500 and 2,000 sqm area in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and HDFC Bank.
At the centre, dry waste will be segregated and processed into a material recovery facility (MRF). It will also process and dispose of waste colllected from homes.
The authority will develop an application that will track garbage disposal. The first phase of the waste centre will be established and operated by HDFC bank for four years under its CSR initiative.
The authority has directed the health department to prepare a detailed evaluation report, including identifying the land area, at the earliest to start the project.
“Plans are underway for decentralised waste management, remediation, construction and demolition waste, community toilets, centralised waste to sweeping etc. For this, we will set up a waste management centre of 1,500 to 2,000 sqm area to process dry waste. While land for the waste management centre will be given by GNIDA, necessary directives have been given to the health department to come up with an evaluation report at the earliest,” said Narendra Bhooshan, CEO of GNIDA.
The waste centre will be managed by HDFC bank under their CSR drive for the first four years and assistance of UNDP teams will be provided. “Garbage will be transported to this centre, segregated here and further sent for disposal,” said Deep Chandra, ACEO of GNIDA. Bhooshan added that the waste centre will function on the lines of the economically sustainable model (ESM) of UNDP.
