To bridge the massive gap between what the farmer gets for his produce and what the consumer ultimately pays, the Narendra Modi government in 2018 launched Operation Greens, on the lines of the hugely successful Operation Flood that revolutionised milk production in India. However, in the past three years, Operation Greens has not really been able to change the situation of farmers, who often have to resort to panic selling or even destroying their crop due to price crash during harvest season.
