Covid: Daily positivity rate drops to 3.93% in Punjab

CHANDIGARH: The daily positivity rate in Punjab dropped to 3.93% -- lowest since February -- after 2,221 out of 56,533 tested positive for Covid were found positive on Monday.
The positivity rate -- the percentage of people who are positive out of the total tested -- fell below the 5% level recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Lower the positivity rate, easier it is to control the spread of the virus.
Of fresh the cases reported in the last 24 hours, as many as 241 people were tested positive in Jalandhar, 223 in Ludhiana, 184 in Bathinda, 164 in Amritsar, 152 in Mansa, 136 in Muktsar, 124 in Patiala, 110 in Hoshiarpur, 93 in Sangrur, 89 in Ferozepur, 88 in Mohali. 81 in Gurdaspur, 78 in Fazilka, 71 in Moga, 64 in Pathankot, 62 in Faridkot, 57 in Ropar, 53 in Kapurthala, 47 each in Barnala and Tarn Taran, 32 in Fatehgarh Sahib, and 25 in Nawanshahr.
The virus claimed 117 more lives in the state. A total of 12 people died in Patiala, 11 in Bathinda, nine each in Mohali and Muktsar, eight each in Sangrur, Ludhiana and Sangrur, seven each in Amritsar and Jalandhar, six in Ferozepur, five in Fazilka, four in Mansa, three each in Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Barnala and Hoshiarpur, two each in Fatehgarh Sahib and Moga and one each in Tarn Taran.
A total of 39,291 were vaccinated across the state. Of the total, 34,089 eligible beneficiaries were given the first shot and 5,202 received their second dose.
Two people infected with Mucormycosis died while the 21 fresh cases were reported on Monday.
