Rupee ends 18 paise lower against US Dollar

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the domestic currency opened at 72.38/$ but pared the gains to close at 72.62 a dollar, registering a decline of 18 paise over its previous close of 72.45/$.

The Indian rupee snapped three day’s rally to end near the day's low at 72.62 per dollar.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the domestic currency opened at 72.38/$ but pared the gains to close at 72.62 a dollar, registering a decline of 18 paise over its previous close of 72.45/$.

On the economic front, the key data point to watch out for would be the GDP growth rate for March 2021 quarter, which will be released today. The infrastructure output and fiscal deficit for April will also be announced today.

Meanwhile, equity benchmark indices rallied on Monday led by strong gains in metals, FMCG and financial stocks. The Sensex rallied 514.56 points, or 1% to close at 51,937.44, while the Nifty ended 147.15 points, or 0.95% higher at 15,582.80.
