Acer has seen its non-PC business grow significantly recently along with its booming PC sales, according to company chairman Jason Chen
Chen said that PC and monitor products remain its core product lines and have been growing, driven by the persistent work-from-home activities in the wake of the pandemic.
Its non-PC business has been expanding faster than that for the PC products, Chen revealed, noting that non-PC sales accounted for 14.3% of its total sales in first-quarter 2021, up from 13.9% for entire 2020.
Acer has established more than 20 subsidiaries, with five of them - AOpen, Weblink, Acer Cyber Security, Acer AEB and Acer Synergy Tech - having listed on Taiwan's securities markets.
The company has also tapped the IC-design sector by committing equity investments in display driver IC company FocalTech Systems.
Its battery arm, MPS (Mobile Power System) Energy, offers battery packs and other power management systems and parts such as controllers, meters and motors to bicycle clients worldwide.
Meanwhile, AOpen has cut into the supply chain of outdoor charging piles for US-based Volta Charging, Chen revealed, adding that AOpen is also expanding its smart parking business in the local market.
Acer is also tapping the telemedicine market in Taiwan and cooperating with Tri-Service General Hospital to develop immunity therapy solutions for cancer, optimizing AI to read and analyze X-ray, MRI and ultrasonic images, Chen noted.
