Springbok loose forward Uzair Cassiem is leaving Welsh outfit Scarlets after three seasons.

The 31-year-old released a heartwarming video on his Twitter page where he confirmed his departure.

"Saying farewell, the only way I know how... It's been an amazing 3 years with so many memories that I get to treasure. You all have been so welcoming to my family and myself. I can’t thank you enough for that. Diolch Scarlets! You all are one of a kind! Uzair," he wrote.

Cassiem is one of several Scarlets players set to leave at the conclusion of the 2021/22 season as the club slims down on its playing group.

Cassiem, who played eight Tests for the Springboks between 2016 and 2017, made a name for himself at the Cheetahs before heading abroad.

According to the Wales Online website, Cassiem is understood to be joining French outfit Bayonne.

Other South Africans also leaving the Scarlets are former Springbok and Bulls prop Werner Kruger, who is set to retire, and former Lions and Southern Kings prop Pieter Scholtz.
