A retired headmaster, who claimed to have been cured of Covid-19 minutes after taking a 'miracle' Ayurvedic medicine in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore, has died. N Kotaiah breathed his last at GGH Nellore on Monday.
N Kotaiah was rushed to Nellore government general hospital on Friday night after his oxygen levels dropped. A few days ago, a video of him proclaiming speedy recovery after taking an Ayurvedic medicine had gone viral.
N Kotaiah said he had taken a "herbal eye drop" made by Bonigi Anandaiah of Krishnapatnam of Nellore and later claimed that he was cured of Covid-19, prompting thousands of people to gather in the Krishnapatnam village to collect the Ayurvedic 'cure'.
"He was facing several other ailments and on Monday earlier the morning, he died," Dr Sudhakr Reddy, the Superintendent of GGH, Nellore told India Today TV.
Meanwhile, health sources have said that at least three members of Anandaiah's team tested positive for Covid-19 positive in rapid antigen test. Samples of over 20 villagers have also been sent for RT-PCR tests after they displayed symptoms of Covid-19.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy who held a review meeting decided to grant permission to the local-made Ayurvedic concoction for Covid fight. The eye drops, developed by Anandaiah, were not approved.
The state government's decision was based on the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) study report.
