On March 15, the state had reported 15,051 cases as it hurtled towards a devastating second Covid-19 wave. The daily count was also a sharp drop from 18,600 infections registered on Sunday. Recoveries far exceeded new infections. As many as 33,000 patients were discharged from hospitals during the day, pushing the number of recovered cases to 53,95,370, a statement from the health department said. Maharashtra: Thane logs 512 new Covid-19 cases, 34 more deaths
Thane has added 512 new cases of coronavirus, raising the infection count in the Maharashtra district to 5,16,364, an official said on Tuesday. Besides these new cases reported on Monday, 34 more people also succumbed to the viral infection, pushing the death toll in the district to 9,248, he said. The Covid-19 mortality rate in Thane stood at 1.79 per cent, he added. (PTI)
Pune: Police firm on 3pm-7am restrictions
Joint commissioner of city police Ravindra Shisve on Monday issued an order restricting movement of people for non-essential purposes from 3pm to 7am from Tuesday till June 15 as a part of the move to check the spread of Covid-19. The order stated that people should not step out of their houses without any valid reason because of the revised restrictions prescribed by the state government and the civic body with effect from Tuesday (June1). Reconciliation in Washim adds 117 deaths to Vidarbha’s Covid toll
Washim’s health department did reconciliation of Covid-19 deaths in the district on Monday, which led to addition of a staggering 117 fatalities to its tally, and subsequently Vidarbha too. “The data for deaths in the district and outside it in the last few days is being updated. Footfall at fever clinics in Nashik drops 60% in 3 weeks
The footfall at fever clinics, set up by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), has declined by around 60% in the past three weeks. In first nine days of May, the average footfall at the fever clinics was around 50. But now it has come down to 15-20 patients per day owing to the huge drop in the number of new cases of Covid-19. Pune: Liquor shops open all days, non-essential on weekdays
The Pune and the Pimpri Chinchwad civic bodies on Monday issued identical orders giving more relaxation from the curbs introduced under the state’s “break the chain” policy to curb the spread of Covid-19. From Tuesday, all essential shops will remain open from 7am to 2pm throughout the week and non-essential shops from 7am to 2pm on weekdays. Pune Metropolitan Region’s recovery rate climbs to 96%; up 9% in one month
The Covid-19 recovery rate in Pune Metropolitan Region increased by 9.6% after nearly three weeks of daily recoveries outstripping fresh cases. By April-end, the recovery rate had stood at 87%. 6,857 active Covid-19 cases in Raigad
Raigad district in Maharashtra has a Covid-19 caseload of 1,28,552, including 3,040 deaths, while the discharge of 1,18,655 people had left it with 6,857 patients under treatment at present, officials said on Monday (PTI)
Pupils going abroad must be from Mumbai to take jab
Only students who live in Mumbai can get vaccinated under the BMC’s new relaxation for those travelling abroad for studies. The civic body had on Friday announced that students who have been accepted to foreign universities can get vaccinated at three designated centres. The three centres, however, will be vaccinating merely a total of 150 people on Monday. Civic officials on Sunday announced that 50 doses each have been set aside for students at Kasturba Hospital in Chinchpokli, RN Cooper in Juhu and Rajawadi in Ghatkopar. Students can walk in from 10am to 3pm. They will have to produce an admission certificate and forms I-20/DS-160.
Mayor finds vax stored in ordinary fridge at hotel
In a surprise check at a hotel offering a Covid vaccination package, mayor Kishori Pednekar on Sunday found vaccines stored in an ordinary fridge instead of specialised cold storage facilities that are needed to store the vaccines. Pednekar has asked BMC officials to check if the vaccination drive complied with all the norms and submit a detailed report.
We get 2-3 black fungus cases daily: ENT surgeon
ENT surgeon Dr Nishit Shah has underscored the need to ramp up the supply of anti-fungal medicines to tackle the escalating cases of mucormycosis or black fungus, in the city. “The situation is deeply worrying. We get two to three cases every day at our centre (in Bombay Hospital) that need to be operated upon, and phone calls are far too many,” Dr Shah told TOI on Sunday. Till last week, the disease has affected close to 5,500 people across the country and claimed 126 lives, including 90 in the state, according to reports.

75% beds vacant at Covid facilities in Aurangabad
With continuous decline in fresh cases of Covid-19, around 75% beds have become vacant in different Covid care facilities across Aurangabad, reducing the burden on health machinery. As per official data, a total of 1,248 beds are vacant at different DCHs, 2025 in DCHCs and 2,826 in CCCs within municipal limits of Aurangabad on Saturday. Also, DCHs and DCHCs have 861 and 1,218 vacant oxygen beds, respectively, besides 88 unclaimed ventilators together in total.
