Lucknow, May 31 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh recorded 1,497 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 151 more deaths from the virus in the past 24 hours, a health bulletin said here on Monday.
The active cases are now 37,044, but 5,471 people have also recovered in the past day, taking the recovery rate to 96.6 per cent. The total number of deaths so far is 20,497.
As per the official data, the fresh cases have declined significantly from the highest 38,055 cases registered on April 24.
The fresh cases came from 3,12,677 tests conducted, of which nearly 1.42 lakh were RT/PCR tests.
Only Meerut recorded the fresh cases in triple-digit 105 while the total number active cases declined to below 600 in Sonbhadra, Deoria Baghpat, Prayagraj, Bijnor and Moradabad too.
The UP government has announced relaxing of COVID-19-induced lockdown in those districts which have less than 600 active cases. As per the official data, now only 16 districts have active cases more than 600.Among the deaths, the highest 48 were recorded in Kushinagar, followed by 16 in Gorakhpur. State capital Lucknow recorded 84 fresh cases and five deaths.
The UP has recorded the highest single-day spike of 38,055 COVID-19 cases on April 24.
