Maahaa raps his way to stardom

Hyderabad: Rappers thrive on innovation. And like all creative artists, city-rapper Mahadev aka Maahaa is busy working on new lines of metaphor, rhythm and flow each day.

Of late, he has come up with a statement song ‘Aatalu Modhalu’ with an independent production house ‘Purple and Gold Entertainment’ launched along with his pal Shashank.

“Covid-19 pandemic has almost paused everything. But the gloomy days of the pandemic had little effect on me as I’m busy working on new content each day,” says Maahaa. His latest one “hey, we’ve come down and check it out” is more like an invitation to the audience.

“Pandemic did impact many local artists. But the zeal to come up with creative content is what keeps the rap music afloat. Social media platforms did help artists like me to reach out to fans in these trying times,” he says.

It all started a year ago when Maahaa and his friend Shashank decided to roll out a new number. “Aatalu Modhalu might not really connect to regular audience as such but this is more like an alert. At the same time, it’s quite different from all my previous works,” he says.

If ‘Naa Galli Naa Lolli’ had to do with showing off some swagger, then, ‘Home Party’ was about Covid and pandemic first wave. Later, ‘Hyderabadi Power’ was a spicy mix of different styles that the city has. “Now, ‘Aatalu Modhalu’ is part of a sequence of songs that are definitely going to come next one year. We’ve planned to release one song each month,” the city rapper says.

The multi-lingual rapper delves deep into the subject while putting together new content. “Topic-oriented songs have a lot of depth and so much research goes into it. Giving emotions to it is what matters. The way we come up with the flow gives beauty to a song. That’s when a lot of accents and metaphors go in,” says the youngster.

Busy calendar

Maahaa is hopeful of an atmosphere of normalcy returning soon in the coming days. “We have got some live shows coming in. Our calendar is going to be full with a lot of club performances, a lot of places to go feature and perform when restrictions of pandemic get eased,” he adds.
