
Covid-19 Cases and Deaths Count in India Today Live Count: Despite the decline in new cases coming in 24-hours, the concern for active cases/ new cases reported remains worrisome. As states, the centre dispute availability of vaccination vials, the centre is likely to take the front seat again in battling the Covid-19 outbreak. According to a report by PTI, the centre on Saturday decided to reconstitute the six empowered groups that will look after the Coronavirus management in the country.
There are likely to be 10 panels to look after the vaccination supply and inventory, availability of oxygen, oxygen production, import, emergency responses, the establishment of PSA plants, and managing economic welfare measures.
The move comes as India– despite showing a decline in daily cases– witnessed 173,790 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours (ending 8 am on Sunday). During the same time, the country recorded 3,617 deaths. While the number of new cases has declined, it is still big enough for the government to take it as a cause of worry. Meanwhile, the latest data suggests that the number of patients recovered since yesterday has been recorded at 2,84,601. The active caseload in the country has come to 22,28,724, whereas a drop of around one lakh cases was seen from a day before.
Meanwhile, lockdowns are expected to continue for some states like Kerala. The state Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that lockdown will be extended to June 9 in Kerala. However, the “triple lockdown” imposed in Malappuram district has been lifted. With the rise in cases, Goa too will extend the curfew by another week. As the positivity rate is still around 22 per cent in the state, restrictions have been extended till June 7.

The Thane Municipal Corporation on Sunday ordered an inquiry after the BJP alleged that an actor was vaccinated against COVID-19 out of turn at a civic health centre operated by a private firm. The BJP had, on Saturday, claimed the actor was given a photo ID card identifying her as a supervisor by the private firm, which enabled her to get vaccinated at TMC's Parking Plaza centre under the "frontline worker" priority category.
"TMC commissioner Vipin Sharma has ordered an inquiry under the deputy municipal commissioner (health) to find out if this woman actor got vaccinated out of turn. The report has to be submitted in three days," TMC spokesperson and DMC Sandeep Malavi told reporters. "There are news reports that Meera Chopra was vaccinated at a centre in Thane. The inquiry will look into all aspects of the matter and recommend action if there is any wrongdoing," Malavi added. (PTI)

Steel maker AMNS India on Sunday announced it is supplying 5,150 oxygen cylinders to the Odisha government to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The first tranche of 1,350 cylinders landed at the Bhubaneshwar airport on Sunday. These will be distributed by the state officials to medical centres across Odisha, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AMNS) India said in a statement. A second consignment of 3,800 units is on its way and is expected to arrive in Odisha in the coming days, the Gujarat-based steel maker said. (PTI)

The Railways has delivered over 21,392 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen in more than 1,274 tankers to 15 states, the national transporter said Sunday amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, 313 Oxygen Express trains have completed their journey while five loaded trains are on the run with more than 406 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen in 23 tankers. Liquid Medical Oxygen delivery to Haryana and Karnataka has crossed 2,000 tonnes each while Tamil Nadu and Telangana each have received over 1,800 tonnes of the life-saving gas. (PTI)
The total COVID-19 recoveries in Andhra Pradesh crossed 15 lakh on Sunday, resulting in a drop in the number of active cases as fresh positives too continued their downward slide for more than a week now. In 24 hours ending 9 am on Sunday, 21,133 Covid-19 patients in the state had recovered and 94 others succumbed while 13,400 new cases were reported, a health bulletin said. The gross positives went up to 16,85,142 and the recoveries to 15,08,515. (PTI)
The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday announced relaxation of lockdown in the state with certain activities allowed from June 1. Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary R K Tiwari said shops and markets outside containment zones will be allowed to open from June 1 onwards from 7 am to 7 pm for five days (Monday to Friday). Night curfew will remain in place from 7 pm to 7 am, he said.
Hinting at shortage of COVID-19 vaccines for the 18-44 age group in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said the state has only 20,000- 25,000 doses left as of now for the younger population. Visiting the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here, Sarma also said the state aims to inoculate around 30 per cent of its entire population by August 15 provided it receives the required doses. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced special measures for rehabilitating children who have been orphaned due to COVID-19. Taking to his social media accounts, Kumar said his government would provide monthly stipends for the bereaved children, boarding facility for those left with no caretaker, and give special impetus to education of orphaned girls. Industry chamber Ficci has written to the central government to cancel Class XII Board examinations, cautioning that the current situation due to COVID-19 is not conducive for conducting physical examination. In a letter to HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Ficci President Uday Shankar said an alternate solution should be devised to determine academic progression. He said that a delayed examination schedule will not only affect those students seeking admission in Indian higher educational institutions, but also jeopardise the dreams of especially those aiming to pursue higher education overseas. Two men, one of them wearing a PPE kit, were caught on tape rolling down a coronavirus patient's body from over a bridge into a river in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district. The video was shot by some people who were driving by the spot. After the visuals surfaced, police registered a case. The union territory of Puducherry added 930 fresh coronavirus cases during the last 24 taking the overall caseload to 1,03,826, a senior official of Department of Health and Family Welfare Services said on Sunday. The Goa government on Sunday announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of COVID-19 victims who were either breadwinners of the family or hailed from poor backgrounds. Making the announcement in his Statehood Day address, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also said another scheme, called 'Mukhyamantri Anath Aadhar Yojana', will be launched, under which orphaned children will get monthly financial aid. As many as 9,541 more people tested positive for COVID-19, taking the tally to 7,56,684 on Sunday, while 33 fresh fatalities raised the toll to 2,719, a health department official said. Of the 9,541 new cases, 5,343 were reported from quarantine centres, and the rest were detected during contact tracing, the official said. Accordingly, the number of active cases rose to 95,266, he said. (PTI)
Nearly 12 crore doses of coronavirus vaccine will be available in June, the Health Ministry said on Sunday. In May, 7,94 crore doses were available for vaccination. In a statement, the ministry said the allocation of supplies to states and union territories is decided on the consumption pattern, population and vaccine wastage. "Visibility for availability of vaccines for the entire month of June 2021 has been provided well in advance to States/UTs...," it said. (PTI)

Jharkhand reported 13 COVID-19 fatalities in the last 24-hours, the lowest in a single day in May, pushing the death toll to 4,958, a health department bulletin said on Sunday. The total active COVID-19 cases in the state plunged to 10,946, it said. The state had on May 2 registered a high of 159 fatalities due to COVID-19, the highest in a single day in the current month.
