Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The special investigation team (SIT) probing multi-layered honey-trap scandal has instructed former chief minister Kamal Nath to keep statement and pen drive ready at 12.30 pm on June 2. The SIT said its team will visit his residence in state capital to collect them.

In the notice issued on Sunday, SIT informed Kamal Nath that latter had held a virtual press conference on May 21 and claimed that he had a pen drive related to honey trap scandal. The SIT claimed that it was very crucial evidence that will strengthen the case. The SIT also informed Kamal Nath that a case regarding honey trap is registered at Palasia police station in Indore and investigation is on in the matter.

The statement of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee Kamal Nath had kicked off a political storm with BJP accusing him of saving his former cabinet colleague and Congress MLA from Dhar district Umang Singhar in abetment to suicide case.

Talking to journalists in Morena district on Sunday, Nath said he doesn’t have pen drive. “I don’t do politics of pen drive,” he said.

Lashing out at Kamal Nath, state BJP president VD Sharma on Sunday said that Nath was trying to save his friend Umang Singhar. “Everybody knows Nath’s intention,” Sharma said while talking to journalists in Katni district.

Honey trap scandal was exposed by Indore police with arrest of five women in September 2019. The women were accused of blackmailing top bureaucrats and politicians. Names of these bureaucrats and politicians have yet to be made public.
