Man held for posing as CBI officer

A 38-year-old man was arrested by the Churachandpur police late yesterday for allegedly posing as a CBI officer.
Thangjalen alias Thangboi son of Chongjathang Haokip of Gamnomjang village, Churachandpur was held last night by the Pearsonmun village Covid Task Force as they were suspicious of the man's claim of being an Additional SP, Centre Bureau of Investigation.
After handing over the individual to Churachandpur Police, a preliminary investigation reportedly established that he has been impersonating for a long time and misusing the same on several occasions.
On a few occasions he had also disrespected the CCP police personnel on duty by saying that he works with the CBI, said a source.
A fake Identity card purportedly of the CBI was also recovered from his possession.
A statement issued by the SP Churachandpur today said the individual had worked at a garment store in Gurgaram since 2015 and had returned home post Covid lockdown in March 2020 .
He had also posed as a Project Director SSA on several occasions and might have conned innocent public, divulged the statement.
The SP's statement further claimed that the impersonator had his fake ID printed at Delhi and had been using it illegally.
The CCpur police is understood to have registered at least two (2) FIRs against this impersonator.
