On Sunday, Turkey commemorated the 568th anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul with a visual show across the Turkish metropolis. Conquest of Istanbul notes the day when Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han (Mehmed the Conqueror), conquered Istanbul at the age of 21 and turned the Ottomans into a world empire.
As per trtworld.com, Turkey's Communications Directorate organised a visual celebration along with the Culture and Tourism Ministry on the occasion.
The 48th chapter of the Quran was recited in the Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque. A visual projection lit up the Galata Tower and Hagia Sophia as the image of Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han.
Earlier, Communications Director Fahrettin Altun on Twitter said Istanbul will celebrate its holiday "with all its splendour."
