Mancherial: Bellampalli MLA’s Durgam Chinnaiah said he’s just a phone call Covid-19 patients and those affected by the pandemic for help.
In an interview with Telangana Today, Chinnaiah spoke about the efforts he has made and the measures he has taken to limit the spread of the virus and instill confidence in the patients.
Excerpts:
TT: Tell us about your efforts to Covid Pandemic in the Bellampalli Assembly constituency?
MLA: According to instructions from Prime Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, I and other local public representatives strive hard to ensure quality medical services to the infected and to provide all support to them. We also supply drugs and oxygen to the patients treated in the isolation center in Bellampalli. We help those admitted to private hospitals in Mancherial and Hyderabad.
We requested the Minister of MA&UD, KT Rama Rao, and the collector Bharati Hollikeri to create an isolation center in the regional hospital in Singareni Collieries Company Limited for people from the Bellampalli constituency. It has helped the local population to access quality medical services. TRS leaders and activists feed the caregivers of the infected people in the facility.
TT: What is your role in providing high quality medical services to patients in the isolation center, the only facility in the district and the neighboring Kumram Bheem Asifabad district?
MLA: Following our request, doctors and paramedics at SCCL perform their duties at the isolation center. I monitor the facilities and interact with patients at regular intervals. I also secured enough oxygen in the center, and Remdesivir injections and other drugs for free. Up to 150 beds with oxygen facilities and 20 ventilators was created. Nutritious food is provided to patients.
TT: In what way do you help the patients besides medical services and are they affected by the lockdown?
MLA: In addition to medical services, I have distributed groceries worth R10 000 each to more than 4 000 patients isolated at home, and to economically poor families affected by the pandemic so far. I try to increase their morale by talking to them and ensuring all help. I create awareness among them about the precautions.
I also arranged helpline so the patients could contact me for any help. Needs suggested to switch 98662 42008 or 98497 15499 or 70323 3327 for help. I requested Bellampalli Municipal Chairman B Swetha and Vice Chairman Sudharshan to share their contact numbers on social media platforms to extend support to the infected.
TT: What do you have to do with the Covid patients and the general public in the wake of the second wave of disease infections?
MLA: I urge citizens to wear face masks, disinfect hands and maintain physical distance to limit the spread of the disease. I ask family members of those who test positive Covid to take extra care of themselves and the infected. I advise the general public to follow self-exclusion and keep the virus at stake. I plead with them not to venture outdoors unless absolutely necessary.
