BHUBANESWAR: The state government has asked the
Regional Medical Research Centre (
RMRC) to assess the vaccine as many people are getting infected even after taking both doses and need hospitalisation.
“It is requested that RMRC Bhubaneswar may carry out a follow-up to assess the hospitalisation and severity among Covid-19 positive individuals post vaccination compared to non-vaccinated. The government has been urging people to get vaccinated maintaining that the vaccine will not only protect one from contracting the coronavirus but will also prevent its progression to a severe form and thereby reducing mortality. These findings could provide valuable insights on future vaccination roadmap of the state,” said additional chief secretary (health) Pradpita Kumar Mohapatra in his letter to RMRC.
The letter also stated that RMRC may contact the Covid-designated hospitals to collect relevant data on individual patients. The collectors have been asked to share vaccination data with RMRC scientists.
In the first week of April, a few healthcare and frontline workers, who had received both doses of vaccine contracted the virus and were hospitalised.
On April 8, a 57-year old man from Titlagarh, who got Covid-19 infection 10 days after taking both the doses of
Covishield had died here at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
The Covid patient had taken the first dose of Covishield on February 6 and second dose on March 10. When he developed symptoms, he was admitted to Balangir Covid Hospital where his swab tested positive.
