LUCKNOW: After imposing it for almost a month, the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday announced the lifting of corona curfew in a graded manner from June 1.
Under the arrangement, the state government will start economic activities outside the containment zones from 7 am to 7 pm. The curfew will, however, continue to persist on Saturday and Sunday.
The relaxation will, however, not be applicable in cases of 20 districts which have more than 600 active cases. This way, the corona curfew will persist in 20 districts including Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, GB nagar, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, Meerut, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bareli, Bulandshahr, Jhansi, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sonbhadra, Jaunpur, Baghgpat, Moradabad, Ghazipur, Bijnor and Deoria.
According to a government order issued by chief secretary, RK Tewari, the relaxation will automatically come into application from the day when the districts record less than 600 active cases. Similarly, the curfew will be put back in place in districts if the number of active cases go beyond 600.
As part of the unlock provisions, shops, markets and super-markets will start operating while following all protocols including usage of sanitizers, face masks and maintaining requisite social distance. The decision comes even as the state government steps up the inoculation drive by starting vaccination of people aged between 18 and 44 years in all 75 districts from June 1.
According to the order, the front line government departments will start operating with full strength, while the other government departments will function with 50% strength. The rest of the 50% staff will have to be called on a rotational basis.
