Akhada Parishad chief slams Ramdev’s allopathy remarks

HARIDWAR: Mahant Narendra Giri, chief of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, apex body of the 13 akhadas of the country, spoke out on Friday against comments made by yoga guru Ramdev on the adverse role of allopathy in the treatment of Covid-19.
He said, “Such a remark should not have been issued. Allopathy is a treatment system just like Ayurveda and should be given respect.”
Giri had tested Covid-positive during the Kumbh Mela last month and was admitted in AIIMS Rishikesh. He told TOI that he has seen for himself “how doctors are doing a tremendous job during the pandemic.” He added: “My comments are in no way meant to disrespect the role of Ayurveda and Ramdev’s contributions.” Meanwhile, akhadas like Nirmal and Bada Akhada Udaseen expressed support to Ramdev.
