CHENNAI: Just ahead of Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president M K Stalin's visit to Erode, Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts on Sunday, the leader urged his party functionaries to continue distributing relief material through their ‘Ondrinaivom Va’ programme to the poor and needy until normalcy returns. He also asked his cadre to avoid meeting him in person during his visit to the districts.
The chief minister will arrive at Erode on Saturday at 9 pm and visit the three districts on Sunday.
He is scheduled to visit the IRT Medical college in Perundurai, Kumaran college in Tiruppur and ESI Medical College in Coimbatore. Following this, a review meeting will be organised at the Coimbatore collectorate.
The state government on Friday announced that the complete lockdown will be extended till June 7 to flatten the Covid-19 curve.
Calling his two-day visit to the three western districts an “emergency” visit to take stock of the Covid-19 situation, Stalin said that except for the ministers, who were given the responsibilities to coordinate Covid-19 prevent measures, the party functionaries and cadres should avoid meeting him in person. They should comply with the lockdown guidelines, he said.
“The party cadres and functionaries should create a situation where no one goes hungry in the state,” said Stalin in a statement. He also urged them to show their love for him by extending relief measures to the public under ‘Ondrinaivom Va’ instead of erecting banners, hoardings and welcome arches.
