CPM and
UDF will send
delegations to assess the ground situation in
Lakshadweep where people are protesting against the
reforms proposed by the island administration.
On Friday, CPM state secretariat decided to send a delegation of MPs to Lakshadweep.
“A delegation led by party central committee member Elamaram Kareem, V Sivadasan and AM Arif will visit Lakshadweep to assess the situation,” state secretariat said. UDF’s delegation will be led by RSP MP NK Premachandran and it will interact with the people in the islands.
CPM also announced protest programmes against the central government’s move to bring out a host of changes in Lakshadweep.
“In protest against the Centre’s move to cancel the special privileges of Lakshadweep, CPM would organize a slew of protests,” said the party state secretariat.
As part of this, CPM would organize protest programmes in front of Lakshadweep offices in Kochi and Beypore on May 31. The protests would be held adhering to Covid-19 protocol, the party statement said. tnn
