BHOPAL: There was a brief spell of light rain in the state capital, providing momentary relief from the hot and humid weather on Saturday evening. In the daytime, cloudy weather prevailed in the city. However, many parts of the state observed cloudy weather during the ongoing Nav-Tapa. The weatherman attributed the rain activities to moisture feeding due to the pre-monsoon activities and trough line which lies over Rajasthan.
It is the time of Nav-Tapa, with the day temperature ranging from 35 degrees Celsius to 41 degrees Celsius in most of the cities of the state. Even after the Nav-Tapa, the temperature has not been increasing at a rapid rate. Usually, Nav-tapa is known for high temperatures. But, because of the humid weather, this has not been happening in Madhya Pradesh this time.
One reason for the slow increase in the day, as well as night, temperature is pre-monsoon activities gaining momentum currently in the country as the South-West Monsoon is knocking on our doors; and the second reason is the trough line lying over Rajasthan. Both the factors are feeding moisture into Madhya Pradesh and causing rain activities.
As far rainfall is concerned, Ujjain recorded 4 cm rainfall, while Saver and Barod recorded 3 cm rainfall. Indore and Mahidpur recorded 2 cm and Kasrawad, Jirapur and Mhow recorded 1 cm rainfall in the past 24 hours. On Saturday, Bhopal recorded 1.25 cm rainfall.
On the temperature front, Bhopal recorded 40.8 degrees Celsius as the day temperature, while it recorded 28.4 degree Celsius as the night temperature, which was 3 degrees Celsius above normal. Indore recorded 37.2 degrees Celsius as the day temperature and it recorded 21.6 degrees Celsius as the night temperature. Pachmarhi recorded 35.0 degrees Celsius as the day temperature, while it recorded 25.0 degrees Celsius as the night temperature.
According to the meteorological department, many districts of Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain and Hoshangabad divisions are likely to experience rain in the next 24 hours. Guna, Narsingpur, Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Sagar, Damoh, Rewa and Sidhi, too, may receive rainfall. Pre-monsoon activities are likely to persist for the time being, so moisture feeding throughout the remaining days of the Nav-Tapa is likely to prevail. So, the chances of a fast increase in temperature or heat wave-like conditions are very thin. Humid weather will continue to prevail in the state.
