The incident took place at Pimpli in Baramati taluka of Pune district in the early hours of Saturday. Two children died after they went inside a well to look for their mother, who had reportedly attempted suicide by jumping into the well. Police have identified the children as Divya Suryawanshi (4) and Shaurya (2). Police said their mother Anjali and father Atul had an argument on Friday night. Following the argument, Anjali jumped into a well in an attempt to die by suicide, said Deputy Superintendent of police Narayan Shirgaonkar.

Her children also went into the well to look for her. Her husband then jumped into the water in an attempt to save all of them. Police said while Anjali was rescued, her children died in the incident.
The bodies of the children were retrieved and taken to a hospital for postmortem. A case of accidental death was lodged at Baramati city police station.
