A major fire broke out at the storeroom of the Belapur ward office on Saturday early morning. No one injured in the fire, however, documents as well as seized items by the anti-encroachment department gutted in the fire.
The fire broke out around 4.50 am in the storeroom of the ward office and it took around 45 minutes for the fire brigade to contain the fire. AR Bhoir from Belapur Fire Brigade said that one fire engine and one water browser were entrusted to control the fire. “While the fire engine was sent from Belapur, water browser rushed to the spot from Nerul fire station,” said the official.
According to an official from the Belapur ward office, the store was used to keep the items seized during the anti-encroachment department like pull cart, shops shed among others,” said the official, adding that few documents were also gutted in the fire.
The exact reason for the fire is not known, however, a fire brigade official said that a short circuit could be the reason. However, they added that the detailed inquiry will reveal the reason.
