Pune has 56 micro-containment zones, four ward office areas have none

The number of micro-containment zones in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas has dropped to 56, with four ward office areas having no containment zones at all.

Cases of coronavirus infection have been falling in the city and the weekly positivity rate has dropped to 7.86 per cent. The number of active Covid-19 cases has decreased from 56,000 a month ago to below 8,000.

The current 56 micro-containment zones in the city include 28 housing societies, 12 buildings and 16 localities, reveals the weekly Covid-19 report.

The micro-containment zones are declared by the assistant municipal commissioner of the ward office for the respective area. It is based on the number of active patients in a building, housing society or locality.

Of the 15 ward offices in the city, four — Yerawada-Kalas-Dhanori, Dhole Patil Road, Kothrud-Bavdhan and Warje-Karvenagar – don’t have a single micro-containment zone right now.

Nagar Road-Vadgaonsheri and Bhavani Peth ward office areas have one micro-containment zone each, Kondhwa-Yeolewadi and Aundh-Baner ward offices have two each and Hadapsar-Mundhwa, Wanowrie-Ramtekdi and Kasba-Vishrambaugwada ward office areas have three micro-containment zones each.

The maximum number of new cases, 770, was reported in Hadapsar-Mundhwa ward office area, while the least, 58, was in the Bhavani Peth area. The highest number of 15 micro-containment zones is in Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar ward office area, followed by 11 in Bibwewadi, nine in Sinhagad Road and six in Shivajinagar-Ghole Road.

The weekly positivity rate in the city, meanwhile, has been declining for the last four weeks. It was 20.99 per cent in the week from April 29 to May 5, with 25,845 new cases. It has reduced to 7.86 per cent for the week from May 20 to May 26.
