Zirakpur, May 28

The Forest Department today took the soil samples near the dried and dead trees alongside the Zirakpur-Patiala road, at K Area and the Old Ambala road after there were allegations that the buider lobby had put chemicals in the roots to deliberately harm the trees for their commercial interest.

In a statement given before the inquiry committee, social worker Sukhdev Chaudhary and others said the trees next to the builder’s project are either cut down by the builders or dried by putting chemical.

On the instructions of District Forest Officer Amit Chauhan, an inquiry committee comprising forest officials visited various areas of Zirakpur today. The committee took the samples of soil and some dried trees from separate places.
