LUCKNOW:
Samajwadi Party leader
Azam Khan is in critical condition and on oxygen support. He is currently undergoing treatment at Lucknow's Medanta hospital.
"Azam Khan's condition is critical but it is not such to be taken on ventilator support. He is in the ICU. He is on 4-5 litres of oxygen, his platelet count dipped to 70,000 on Saturday, he has lung infection and the creatinine through normal is borderline high and needs to be maintained, " said hospital director Dr Rakesh Kapoor.
The hospital has said he is being monitored constantly by the best team of doctors.
The senior politician and his 30-year-old son, Mohammad Abdullah, had tested positive for Covid-19 on April 30 and were admitted to Medanta hospital.
His son's immunity is responding better to the disease and his status was stable but under medical care at the same hospital.
Dr Kapoor said that Khan's condition has been constantly changing, getting better sometimes and dipping at some other points.
"At the moment we can only say that time will tell how he fares. His condition can improve or deteriorate from here on. We are doing our best but there is lung infection due to covid-19," he added.
