Richa Chadha not happy with Randeep Hooda’s ‘joke’ on Mayawati, brands it as ‘tasteless, crass and sexist’

Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda curated headlines a few days ago for his old video in which he can be seen passing scathing comments on the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and the national president of the Bahujan Samaj Party, Mayawati. The Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai actor cracked a ‘casteist’, NSFW (not suitable for work) joke on Mayawati while attending an event back in 2012.
The video clip went viral recently for which Randeep was criticised from right, left, and centre. He was called out by the netizens for being ‘sexist, ‘misogynist’ and ‘insensitive’. Many demanded an apology from the actor and #ArrestRandeepHooda also trended on Twitter.
Now, two days after the viral video incident, Randeep’s Sarbjit co-star Richa Chadha has countered his remark after a few netizens tagged her and celebs like Swara Bhasker, Taapsee Pannu, and Konkona Sen Sharma and urged them to break their silence on the matter.
“Where are all the ‘feminists’ actors @ReallySwara @Konkonas, @tapseepannu, and @RichaChadha Will they speak against @RandeepHooda or stand and applause for their brother? We are watching…” wrote a social media user.
Richa took notice of the thread and called Randeep’s ‘joke’ “crass, tasteless and sexist”. “It’s a despicable “joke”. It’s crass, tasteless, and sexist. Yes. It’s casteist too. Also, plz explain the reason why you continue to ask ONLY women to apologise for their male colleagues while you pontificate on sexism. Not holding my breath,” she tweeted.
Randeep and Richa shared the screen space in the critically acclaimed film Sarbjit. The actor played Randeep’s wife in the film. Directed by Omung Kumar, the biographical drama also starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in an important role.
