In a letter to UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, Chander Mukhi Sharma, election in-charge, AAP, said: “The misery of Covid patients has doubled with private hospitals in the city fleecing them and their family members in the name of treatment.”

Sharma said cheating of patients and their families was happening right under the nose of the officials concerned, who were supposed to curb any such practice. Media reports openly indicate that private hospitals are overcharging and cheating patients and hospitalisation bills were running into several lakhs of rupees.

He said the party demanded that in such cases, private hospitals and their management should be booked under various provisions of the IPC, the Disaster Management Act and the Drugs Control Act.

“This should be done immediately to send a clear signal to private hospitals to desist from indulging in these illegal activities during such horrific times,” he said.
