Mary Come see the sixth gold medal in the Asian Boxing Championship

Dubai: The six-time world champion, MC Mary Kom (51 kg), will win her sixth gold if she competes here in Kazimstan’s Nazym Kyzaibay in the 51 kg final for the Asian Boxing Championships for women here on Sunday.

Mary Kom, 38, won 4-1 over Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in Mongolia in the semi-finals on Thursday. She will face a tough challenge from two-time world champion Kyzaibay in the clash of the summit. Another Olympic boxer, Pooja Rani, who made it through to the semifinals, will fight Mavluda Movlonova of Uzbekistan, who ended the challenge of medalist Marina Volnova of the London Olympics in the final fourth stage.

Anupama (+ 81 kg) and Lalbuatsahi (64 kg) will also face strong Kazakh boxers in their respective finals. On Monday, defending champions Amit Panghal (52kg), Shiva Thapa (64kg) and Sanjeet (91kg) will be seen in action for the gold medal for men on Monday. Panghal will face the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and world champion Zoirov Shakhobidin of Uzbekistan, while Thapa will tackle silver medalist Baatarsukh Chinzorig of Mongolia in the Asian Games.

The second-seeded Sanjeet will battle silver medalist Vassiliy Levit at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Indian boxers have already secured their best show ever by achieving an unprecedented 15 medals, achieving their previous highest of 13 (2 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze) achieved during the 2019 edition. The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has awarded $ 4.00,000 in prize money for these championships. The men’s and women’s gold medal winners will receive $ 10,000 each, while the silver and bronze winners will take home $ 5,000 and $ 2,500 respectively.

Eight Indian pugilists – Simranjit Kaur (60 kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69 kg), Jaismine (57 kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (64 kg), Monika (48 kg), Saweety (81 kg) among women and Vikas Krishan (69 kg ) and Varinder Singh (60 kg) among men – won bronze medals in their semi-finals.
