Indore: Pre-monsoon rains coupled with gusty winds lashed the city consecutively on the third day on Saturday.
The Regional Meteorological Department recorded 1.2 mm rain till 8.30 pm with which the total rainfall in three days reached 33.3 mm (1.3 inches).
Winds were blowing with a speed of 60 km per hour in the evening which signalled the citizens to brace up for pre-monsoon showers. Those in the field for emergency duty has to face trouble due to sudden rainfall.
The humidity level was quite high since morning and clouds covered the city sky making it dark at 4.30 pm. It started raining at 5 pm and it continued for almost 2 hours. The change in climatic conditions provided much-needed relief to the people from itchy weather but it remained short-lived as it turned humid again.
“Moisture is coming from the Arabian Sea due to the increasing heat in the daytime in the city while multiple troughs of cyclonic circulation affecting city weather. The western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan and neighbourhood, a trough from the above cyclonic circulation over Punjab and neighbourhood to northeast Rajasthan, and a cyclonic circulation over southeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood, while a trough from the above the cyclonic circulation over southeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood persists,” meteorological department officials said.
They added that the Indore region would witness the same conditions on Sunday as well.
Officials said that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to set in Kerala on May 31 and it will set over Madhya Pradesh after 13-15 days.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 37.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 21.6 degree Celsius. The humidity level was 73 per cent in the morning and 65 per cent in the evening.
Power cuts in many areas
The denizens got much-needed relief from the scorching heat with the pre-monsoon showers but power cuts posed a problem. Sudden power cuts irked the citizens as they had to stay in the dark for few hours. Areas like Prabhu Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Vaishali Nagar, Aerodrome area and LIG witnessed power cuts due to faults in line.
