South African tennis star Lloyd Harris has landed in a tough section of the draw for this year's French Open.
French Open men's singles draw
Harris, the world No 50, faces a challenging opening round against Italian 26th-seed Lorenzo Sonego on Sunday. Sonego is an accomplished clay court player and will prove a stern test for Harris.
Should Harris prevail, he could come up against Britain's Cameron Norrie, who recently notched a 6-3, 6-2 clay win over Dominic Thiem, the world No 4 and two-time French Open finalist. Norrie, the world No 45, faces a qualifier in his first match.
Harris has struggled with a back injury of late, but if he can somehow find a way through his first two matches, things are likely to get considerably tougher.
There a third round duel with 13-time champion Rafael Nadal potentially lies in wait. Nadal, who was drawn in the same half as Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, opens his account against Australia's Alexei Popyrin, the world No 62.
Meanwhile South Africa's other singles participant, Kevin Anderson, has a slightly easier opening round.
Anderson, currently down at 97 in the ATP rankings, faces South Korea's Kwon Soon-woo, who is ranked 90th in the world.
The doubles draw is yet to be made, but South Africa's Raven Klaasen and his Japanese partner Ben McLachlan will be in action.
