Google Messages app has received a new update and there are some features that haven’t been activated yet by Google. Well, this is apparent from a teardown done by the folks over at XDA Developers. They have dissected the latest APK of the app to see what other features Google has baked in but not decided to bring them out in public yet.

According to their inspection, they have found strings inside the code that indicate the Google Messages app will let you pin a particular message or even star it.

This is a great method to let you separate your important messages from other chats with the frivolous matter. When available, you will be able to pin any message and it will hop to the top to seek your attention every time you open the Messages app. As per their careful examination, one can pin only 3 conversations to the top. The site points out the string includes a variable value, which means Google may increase or decrease the number of pinned conversations by the time the feature rolls out to the users.

Along with the pinned conversations feature, the site also managed to spot a few strings on Starring messages. This simply indicates that users will be able to star specific messages. You can star your favorite messages or any important transactional messages that you want to keep the track of. According to the site, the strings further suggest that Google Messages will also get a feature using which users will be able to look into all of their starred messages. This feature is expected to join in a later stage.

Pinning and Starring messages have been available with the apps like WhatsApp and Telegram. But it is coming to the simple Google Messages app now only.

You can update the Google Messages app to the latest version v8.1.050. Once again, it is worth mentioning that the pinning and starring of messages are not alive in the latest update. It is possible that Google activates them in the near future.
