Maharashtra SSC exams cancelled, students to be evaluated on 50% marks in both class 9 and 10

MUMBAI: The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination stands cancelled and students will be evaluated based on their class 9 and class 10 marks. However, for admission to class 11, preference will be given to students who will take the 100 marks Common Entrance Test (CET).

Over 16 lakh students in the state were to take the examination that was to be held from April 29 to May 20.

State education minister Varsha Gaikwad on Friday released the assessment methodology of class 10 students and said that the results will be declared in the last week of June. For every 100 marks in a subject, 50 per cent weightage will be given to class 9 and 50 per cent to class 10 scores. Each student has to be assessed for 600 marks (best of five subjects).

In case of class 9 marks, students will be evaluated on the marks scored in the final exams. Schools had conducted online exams after the country wide lockdown was announced in March last year.
In case of class 10 assessment, 30 marks weightage will be given for written exams (all exams were conducted online). And 20 marks will be given for oral tests, homework and practicals/viva. Students will have an option of the class improvement exam, in case they are not happy with their scores.

The state will conduct a 100 marks Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to class 11. Though the exam will be optional and can be taken by students of all education boards, CET scores will be given preference for admission to class 11. The 100 marks test for two hours will have multiple choice questions. Those students not taking the CET will later be considered for admission to colleges based on their class 10 results.

The state is likely to file an affidavit in the Bombay high court on Friday regarding its assessment methodology.
