Aligarh, May 28(UNI) At least eight people lost their lives after consuming illicit liquor in this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Friday.
The toll is likely to rise as more than ten people are undergoing treatment in a hospital and are stated to be critical.
Among the deceased are four truck drivers who consumed the hooch at a dhaba with their dinner.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a high-level inquiry besides strict action, including registration of case under NSA, against the culprits.
Administrative officials, including District Magistrate Chandrabhushan Singh, have reached the spot.
Mr Singh has confirmed eight deaths so far.
The deaths have reported from different villages and police is trying to gather more information.
All the deceased had purchased liquor on Thursday and consumed them late in the evening following which their condition started to deteriorate.
The police has taken the liquor shop in its possession and are investigating the matter.
Local people claimed that those who lost their lives after consuming liquor had purchased the illicit liquor from the village itself.
Two of the dead are drivers of the HP Gas Bottling Plant at Karsua.
Three of the deceased are residents of the village itself.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
A large number of people have gathered in the village on hearing about this incident.
Additional police have been rushed to control the situation.
The deceased have been identified as identified as Islamuddin (65 ) of Dadri (Gautam Budh Nagar), Avnish (34) Datia (Pratapgarh), Lallan (50) Samastipur (Bihar) ,Mahesh (45) Ram Nagla (Mathura).
While four were truck drivers, Rajesh Kumar (35 ) , Maheshpal (40) and Sunil (28 ), one is yet to be identified.
