Patiala, May 27

A patran-based farmer Balbir Singh (59) and his son Charanjeet Singh (32) were allegedly murdered at Hamcheri village over a property dispute yesterday night.

The police said a case had been registered against Balbir’s brother Karnail Singh, his mother Balwinder Kaur, his nephews Khuvinder Singh and Gurpal Singh, besides his friend Jaspal Singh under Section 302 (Murder) and 120-B (Criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code in this regard.

The two brothers and their families had locked horns over the ownership of two acres of agricultural land following which a dispute was pending between the two factions.

Senior police officers from Patran said the incident occurred around 10.30 pm yesterday when Balbir’s nephews Khuvinder and Gurpal knocked at the doors of his house and said they wanted to discuss their plans to join the Delhi farmers’ agitation.

“However once inside the house, they allegedly fired multiple shots with their .12-bore gun leaving the father-son duo dead on the spot and fled from the crime scene,” said the police. Raids were on to nab the two suspects, the police added.
