New rules expected to improve tourism in Lakshadweep

Published on : Friday, May 28, 2021

Blaming “misinformation” for the turbulence in Lakshadweep, collector S Asker Ali defended a series of debatable policy changes initiated by administrator Praful Patel as being fundamental towards the development of the archipelago.

Ali said that Lakshadweep’s development in all these years isn’t quite proportionate with its potential. “Maldives has emerged as a great tourism location on the world map. But even today, there are negligible facilities for tourism in Lakshadweep,” he said. Mr. Ali said that three eco-friendly villa projects for improving tourism will be implemented by the Lakshadweep administration in association with Niti Aayog from August.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked PM Modi to ensure the removal of new rules in Lakshadweep. In a letter to Modi, he drew attention to the changes brought in the “guise of development and maintaining law and order”. Rahul Gandhi said that the changes were brought without consulting people and elected representatives.
