India’s largest car manufacturer – Maruti Suzuki has collaborated with oxygen PSA generator manufacturers. With the rising COVID-19 cases in the second wave, Maruti Suzuki started looking to purchase oxygen generator plants for the hospitals. However, MSIL figured out that only a few manufacturers are currently in the business of producing these oxygen PSA generators.

Since these small scale manufacturers were loaded with orders and did not have the bandwidth to manufacture more plants, Maruti Suzuki decided to help them. Maruti Suzuki activated its Supply Chain division and roped in new supplier partners like M/s JBML, M/s SKH Metals and M/s Motherson to help the manufacturing activity of the PSA manufacturers namely M/S Airox Nigen, M/s Sam Gases and M/s Gaskon.

Maruti Suzuki made the arrangement on a completely not-for-profit basis. The result was quite interesting and the arrangement translated into the output of 6 plants per day. The first 24 of these plants will be installed by Maruti Suzuki and its suppliers as CSR initiative before 15th June. Also, Maruti Suzuki has deployed a separate team to do round the clock monitoring to ensure that these generator plans are installed successfully in the hospitals and are operational as well.

The monitoring team will remain active for a few months time to ensure that these generators keep operating satisfactorily well after the installation. Maruti Suzuki has also created a website so that hospitals that need such can get information, a new website has been launched too.

Mr R C Bhargava, Chairman, MSIL, said,

“Maruti Suzuki is supporting these 3 manufacturers to increase their production of PSA plants for oxygen for Covid. Within one month of our entering this project, our people have been able to increase the capacity of building Oxygen Generator plants by 10 times. This arrangement will deliver about 70 plants in May and 150 in June and this is more than the total estimated production in India in the financial year 2020-21.”
