NEW DELHI: The home ministry on Thursday asked all the states and Union territories to continue their compliance with Covid containment measures outlined by the ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) last month, till June 30. It also advised them to allow relaxations in lockdown curbs currently in force in many states/UTs, only in a graded manner.
Stating that the strict implementation of containment and other measures had brought about a decline in number of new and active cases countrywide, barring in some areas of southern and northeast regions, home secretary Ajay Bhalla in a letter to the state chief secretaries and UT administrators asked them to continue to be cautious as the number of active cases was still very high.

“It is, therefore, important that containment measures may continue to be implemented strictly. Any relaxation by states/UTs, may be considered at an appropriate time, in a graded manner, after assessing the local situation, requirements and resources,” he stated.

Urging the states to continue compliance with the containment strategy as advised by MoHFW on April 25 – intensive and local containment measures in districts and areas with positivity rate of 10% or more over the past week and where over 60% of the ICU beds are occupied -- Bhalla said necessary directions may be issued to district authorities for taking all required measures.
He further advised that orders and guidelines issued by the respective state governments or UT administrations be widely disseminated to the public and the field functionaries, for effective implementation.
