Kerala records 35,525 recoveries against 28,798 new Covid cases

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state recorded more recoveries from Covid-19 than fresh cases on Wednesday. A total number of 35, 525 of Covid-19 patients recovered on Wednesday against 28,798 new cases.
The active caseload now stands at 2,48,527 while the test positivity rate (TPR) is at 19.95%. The state also recorded 151 new fatalities, which took the overall toll to 7,882.
“The fact that the infection rate is lower than the recovery rate is a good sign. But we still we have to keep our guard against the pandemic. There is no decline in the number of people undergoing Covid treatment in hospitals. The rush for ventilators and ICU beds would continue for some more days,” chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters during his daily news conference. According to statistics released by the office of health minister Veena George, Malappuram remained top in terms of infection rates with 4,751 new cases.
The district-wise break up of fresh infections is as follows: Ernakulam (3,444), Palakkad (3,038), Kollam (2,886), Thiruvananthapuram (2,829), Thrissur (2,209), Alappuzha (2,184), Kozhikode (1,817), Kottayam (1,473), Kannur (1,304), Idukki (1,012), Pathanamthitta (906), Kasaragod (572) and Wayanad (373).
As many as1, 44 372 samples were tested on Wednesday, taking the total number of samples collected so far to1,91,68.
Among those who tested positivefor thedisease,184havecome from other states while as many as 26,860 people got infected through local transmission.
The source of infection in 1,663 persons is unknown. The district-wise break up of people infected through local transmission is as follows: Malappuram (4,587), Ernakulam (3,321), Palakkad (1,846), Kollam (2,824), Thiruvananthapuram (2,705), Thrissur (2,187), Alappuzha (2,168), Kozhikode (1,780), Kottayam(1,413),Kannur (1,199),Idukki (981), Pathanamthitta (884), Kasaragod (556) and Wayand (359). As many as 91 health workers were among those who tested positive for the coronavirus. The district-wise count is as follows: Kannur (21), Thirussur andThiruvananthapuram,(12), Kollam(10),Palakkad andKasaragod (8), Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam (7), and Wayanad (4) and Kottayam and Idukki (1).
There are 8,89,902 people under quarantine in the state. Among them, 8, 50, 882 patients are under home/institutional quarantine and 39, 020 in hospitals. As many as 3,823 persons were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday. One new zone was added to the hotspot list, taking thetotal number hotspotsto 880.
