1. Dominica has agreed for Mehul Choksi's repatriation to India, Antigua will not accept him back: PM Gaston Browne
Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said that fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi, who has been found in Dominica, will be repatriated to India and Indian authorities are in touch with those in Dominica. In an exclusive interview with news agency ANI, Browne said Dominica has agreed Choksi's repatriation and Antigua will not accept him back. Browne said he has requested PM Skerrit and law enforcement in Dominica to not return Choksi to Antigua where he has legal and constitutional protection as citizen.
2. COVID-19: Bombay High Court lauds 'Mumbai Model', asks why it isn't used by other civic bodies
Bombay High Court today once again appreciateed "effective" work done by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in second COVID-19 wave and asked as to why other local bodies particularly Pune and Nashik are not using the successful "Mumbai Model". The court also asked the Maharashtra government as to why BMC chief Iqbal Singh Chahal hasn't conducted a video conference with commissioners of other municipal corporations and shared Mumbai Model. "Our only anxiety is the successful Mumbai Model should reach to all Corporations in Maharashtra," HC noted.
3. Twitter calls out intimidation by police over manipulated media tags
Twitter today called the visit by Delhi Police to its offices a form of "intimidation" and said it was concerned about its employees and the potential threat to freedom of expression. In its first official statement after the Delhi Police visited the company's offices in Delhi and in Gurugram to serve notice to its country managing director about an investigation into the 'manipulated media' tag, Twitter said it will continue to be strictly guided by principles of transparency and protecting freedom of expression. The company said it will "strive" to comply with applicable law in India to keep its service available in the country but will "advocate for changes to elements of these regulations that inhibit free, open public conversation."
4. Centre respects right of privacy: Ravi Shankar Prasad on WhatsApp row
A day after WhatsApp moved the Delhi HC against the Centre's recent IT Rules, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said the Central government fully recognises and respects the right of privacy, adding that ordinary WhatsApp users have nothing to fear about the new rules. Taking to microblogging site Koo, the Union Minister said the objective of the new IT Rules is to find out who started the message that led to the commissioning of specific crimes. The minister said the obligation to reveal the first originator of an offensive message already in circulation relates only to offences relating to "sovereignty, integrity and security of India, public order, rape, and child sexual abuse" and that too when other less intrusive measures are not effective.
5. Sensex rises 98 points amid F&O expiry; Nifty holds 15,300
Equity benchmark Sensex advanced 98 points after a choppy session today as monthly derivatives expired amid a largely weak trend in global markets. The 30-share BSE index ended 97.70 points or 0.19 per cent higher at 51,115.22, and the broader NSE Nifty rose 36.40 points or 0.24 per cent to 15,337.85. SBI was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, jumping around 3 per cent, followed by Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto, Tech Mahindra, UltraTech Cement and PowerGrid. On the other hand, HDFC, Bajaj Finance, ONGC and Bharti Airtel were among the laggards.
