NBC has announced that The Kelly Clarkson Show will replace the The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022.

Earlier this month, Ellen announced that her long-running talk show will end next year. This comes after the show was embroiled in a toxic workplace scandal last year.

"When you're a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged - and as great as this show is, and as fun, as it is, it's just not a challenge anymore," the 63-year-old said.

The Kelly Clarkson Show - now in its second season - has been a hit for the network. Last year the show won three Daytime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host for Kelly. Just this week, it has garnered six Daytime Emmy nominations.

The variety talk show hosted by the American Idol winner has heart-warming stories, celebrity guests, games and live musicals performances.

Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Local, said: "These are remarkable achievements for a talk show in its second season. We look forward to Ellen DeGeneres' 19th season paired with Kelly Clarkson for what is sure to be a blockbuster year. By 2022, The Kelly Clarkson Show will be the star of our daytime entertainment schedules and an asset to our early afternoon newscasts," reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Tracie Wilson, executive VP, NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, added: "Kelly and our entire production team put their heart, intent and incredible passion into making a show that resonates with people of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. We're working on some big plans for season three and are looking forward to becoming the premier show in daytime for years to come."

The Kelly Clarkson show airs weekdays at 17:00 on M-Net (DStv 101)
