The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said that ahead of monsoon, citizen's can obtain permission online for pruning of trees within the premises of their housing societies.
As per the rules of the civic body, the trees collapsed within the premises of a private property is to be removed by the owners or occupants of the property. Meanwhile, those in public places are removed by the garden department of the BMC. However, residents may approach the civic body and be able to do so in exchange of a nominal charge.
The BMC on Wednesday said that citizens can book the slots for pruning online through BMC's website and the MCGM 24X7 mobile application.
"Every year there are loss of both lives and properties caused due to tree collapse during monsoon, to minimise the outcome, we have approached the citizens to become proactive this year," said the civic body in a statement.
Earlier, post-cyclone Tauktae, as many as 812 trees had fallen in the city. Following which, the BMC during its tree committee meeting, earlier on Monday, this week, it had appointed contractors for the maintenance of dangerous trees of Mumbai.
"The contractors will carry out inspection of all the trees and may prune parts of large trees to ensure they don't become top-heavy," said an official.
