NEW DELHI. Twitter Inc said on Thursday it was worried about the safety of its staff in India and potential threat to freedom of expression, days after police visited its office as part of a probe related to the social media firm's tagging of certain posts as manipulated.

The micro-blogging site urged the technology ministry to give it three more months to comply with the new IT rules that came into effect from May 26., which include the appointment of an Indian grievance officer to deal with complaints.
However, most of the Indian Twitter users were not having any of it and slammed the social media platform for overplaying the 'freedom of expression' card while themselves suspending other Twitter accounts and flouting Indian rules.

'Restore Kangana Ranaut's account first and then talk about freedom of expression'

'Stop playing victim card'

'Twitter is not above law of the land'

Funny parallels were drawn

Giving back in the same coin

Hypocrisy

However, there were few who slammed the Modi government for intimidating Twitter.
