TSBIE opens admissions for Inter even before affiliation
HYDERABAD: Even before sanctioning affiliation to intermediate colleges, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education(TSBIE) has released a notification calling for admissions to intermediate first year. In fact, it has even asked students and parents to opt for only those colleges that have been sanctioned affiliation and whose details are uploaded on the board’s website.
As per the notification released by the board on Tuesday, classes for first year intermediate students will commence online from June 1. The first phase of admissions will be completed by July 5.
The notification has left both parents and college managements bewildered. “After it was released, I checked for the list of affiliated colleges in the city but found nothing on the website. Why not sanction affiliation first and then ask parents to seek admission,” questioned G Laxmi Narayana, whose daughter secured a 10 GPA in SSC exams.
Parents and managements also questioned how students will seek admission during the lockdown. “What’s the hurry. When a lockdown is in place until May 30, how is the board expecting students to seek admissions? Unlike last year, this year even mee seva centres are closed and the majority of students have no option to apply,” said G Satish, president, Telangana Private Junior Colleges Management Association (TPJMA) adding that the move will only benefit corporate colleges.
Another parent Srinivas E said, “Post lockdown, there is no way all parents can apply and get admission in a day or two. The board should give at least a couple of weeks so that parents can get their children admitted and buy books so that they can attend online classes.”
The managements said that last year hardly 0.5% of students applied through online mode for intermediate admissions. They further said that the board should first start classes for intermediate second-year students and added that there is no need to start classes for first-year students immediately.
Sources from the board, meanwhile, claimed that it would take at least a month to grant affiliation to private junior colleges.
