ICGS Rajdoot brought the stranded boat to safety up to Old Port harbour.
MANGALURU: The Coast Guard has rescued 10 fishermen from a boat which was stranded in the Arabian sea, about 20 nautical miles off the New Mangaluru coast.
A distress message from the boat was transmitted through very high frequency to ICG’s Maritime Rescue Sub Coordination Centre (MRSC).
After receiving the information, the Coast Guard immediately diverted high speed boat C 448 on patrol for assistance and Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Rajdoot was sailed from the port, said DIG SB Venkatesh.
The mechanized fishing boat had taken shelter at Porbandar on May 14 due to cyclonic storm Tauktae.
The boat had set sail from Porbandar on May 19 and whilst facing the seas from Porbandar enroute, off New Mangalore, the boat encountered engine failure.
Meanwhile, motorized sailing vessel Al Badriya MNG- 471 was requested by the Coast Guard to provide tow assistance till ICGS Rajdoot arrived.
Later, ICGS Rajdoot brought the stranded boat to safety up to Old Port harbour.
Out of the 10 fishermen rescued, seven are from Tamil Nadu and three are from Kerala.
