JORHAT, May 27: Renowned educationist, writer and critic, Dr Dilip Baruah passed away on Thursday at his Choladhara residence here due to old-age ailments.
He was 87.
Dr Baruah was the former head of the department of English, Burdwan University, West Bengal. He was also a guest professor at Vidyasagar University, Jadavpur University and Kolkata University, all in West Bengal, and at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
Dr Baruah earlier had taught at the Saint Anthony’s College, Shillong, Cotton College, Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University and has authored several books.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his sorrow on the death of Baruah. Praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul, Dr Sarma stated that Dr Baruah’s contribution towards the literary and education fields will always be remembered.
