Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has challenged his Manchester United players to take the next step in their progression by securing their first trophy of his reign in tonight’s Europa League final.

When the players sign for Manchester United, they sign to win trophies,” he said. “They sign to accept the challenge of being the best because this is the best club in the world. That is the pleasure of the pressure of playing for Manchester United and something they are ready for because they wouldn’t have signed if they weren’t top players.”

Solskjaer says winning his first trophy as United manager is irrelevant compared to the development of his team.

“I always think forward and focus on making the right decision for the club, making the right decision for this team, I never think about my own CV,” he said.

United – who’ll be without the injured Harry Maguire (ankle) – face a Villarreal team coached by Unai Emery, who won the competition three times with Sevilla and could add another title the season after getting sacked at Arsenal.
